Day 27- A song that breaks your heart
“How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” / Al Green (1972)
This freaking song. I love it because it’s so tragic. The first time I heard it was on the The Virgin Suicides soundtrack. It plays during a scene where Josh Hartnett’s character is depressed, unsure how to score a date with Kirsten Dunst’s Lux. When I heard it in completion for the first time, I was struck by the sadness. It’s the perfect song to listen to when I’m feeling depressed and just want to wallow.
While I like the version sung by the Bee Gees, there is something about Al Green’s voice that is so mournful. He sounds as though he is genuinely pleading for someone to make him feel alive again. So sad but so beautiful.
