Day 06- Favorite episode of your favorite TV show
This is an impossible decision to make. I’ve tried multiple times to pick a favorite episode but that is like asking a mother to pick her favorite child. It just can’t be done. So I have decided to feature my favorite episodes. That’s right, episodes, plural. They aired run one right after the other, but that is just a coincidence.
What makes this episode are the moments between Buffy and Spike: the exchange when she is disgusted about feeding him blood from a mug, the arguing back and forth between whether Buffy has stones or not, the HILARIOUS proposal complete with hideous skull ring, the discussion about wedding invitations, “Spike lips, lips of Spike”, and “Wind Beneath My Wings”. It’s non-stop hilarity.
Bonus points go to Giles falling into a drunken stupor as he become blind, Xander’s reaction to Buffy and Spike’s engagement (“How? What? How?”), and Willow doing the dance of a brave little toaster.
There is a reason that this episode was nominated for an Emmy. To make one of the most captivating, scary episodes of television with almost thirty minutes of silence from the actors is an achievement of Herculean proportions.
The Gentlemen are the creepiest fucking thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The first time I saw them I was so scared that I started crying. That is not a normal reaction. Not at all. I still have nightmares about them and I saw them for the first time over thirteen years ago. That’s an abnormally long time to be frightened of fictional creatures. It’s a testament to Joss Whedon and the make-up crew.
Bonus points for the use of “Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saens (my favorite piece of Halloween music), Buffy’s mimed reaction to her hips in Giles’s slideshow, and Buffy and Riley’s first kiss.
“Halloween”, “Homecoming”, “Band Candy”, “The Prom”, “Who Are You”, “Restless”, “Fool for Love”, “The Body”, “The Gift”, “Once More, With Feeling”, “Chosen”
