Hey, Watch This!: The Warriors

I can’t believe that I went the first eighteen years of my life without knowing The Warriors existed. It is a travesty of epic proportions.

A gang must make their way through New York City back to their home territory after being framed for the murder of a rival gang leader.

The Warriors are badass motherfuckers. Seriously.

The costumes are brilliant. Have you ever seen a cooler leather vest than this? I already know the answer. It’s no.

A midnight summit with ALL the gangs in New York? Please sign me up for this. Or not because I would probably be terrified in real life. In some imaginary life where I get to carry brass knuckles, count me in.

The greatest speech every given in the history of man.

Ajax is the shit. I would totally hang with him any day of the week. I mean, check out how defiant he is in the face of a dude with a baseball bat: “I’ll shove that bat up your ass and turn you into a Popsicle.”

It’s so quotable! Besides the obvious Cyrus and Luther quotes, you have gems such as this: “Why don’t you just tie a mattress to your back?” Classic and classy.

“Warriors… come out to play!” I want this engraved on my tombstone.

Epic showdown on the beach. Is there a more badass place to get into a fight than on the beach? Probably but it’s still amazing.

Coney Island bitches. I’ve never been but I understand the significance. I will ride the subway to Coney ALL DAY.

The Warriors– Come from Coney Island. They wear brown pleather vests with their patch on the back.

Turnbull AC’s– They are skinheads who drive an old school bus that has been painted green. The Warriors encounter them on the way to Gunhill Station in The Bronx.

Orphans– They are a rag tag group of misfits who were not invited to the big meetup. They all wear green t-shirts with jeans and tennis shoes. The Warriors encounter them after their subway train is stopped at Tremont.

Baseball Furies– They wear New York Yankee uniforms and paint their faces multi-colored, silently threatening others with the baseball bats they carry. Swan, Ajax, Cowboy and Snow encounter them at Riverside Park in Manhattan.

The Lizzies– An all-female gang that lure some of the Warriors back to their apartment. Vermin, Rembrant and Cochise encounter them at Union Square Station in Manhattan.

Punks– They are another mute gang, who wear brightly colored long-sleeve shirts and overalls. The Warriors encounter them at the subway station at The Bowery in Manhattan.

The Rogues– Luther’s gang, they are responsible for Cyrus’s death. Though they are from Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan, the Warriors face off with them on the beach at Coney Island.

Riffs– The biggest gang in the city, led by Cyrus. They wear outfits that resemble karategi. They are based in Gramercy in Manhattan.
